The Photo Game: Going Up! Going Down.

Inspired by some half-frame diptychs on Half Frame Club, I chose to shoot two photos of the steps, one "Going up!" and the other "Going down."

I joined Kenneth Wajda and a small group of photographers in a weekly photo game awhile ago. Each week Kenneth wrote a prompt, and we were tasked with creating a photograph that met the prompt. Unfortunately Kenneth's photo game is taking a break.

I am still enjoying film photography, and my wife has graciously agreed to provide me with a surprise prompt each week. So, I plan to continue with my own personal photo game.

The rules are still the same:

  • All submissions must be scans of film, no photos from digital cameras
  • Images must be taken, processed, and submitted by 8AM each Saturday
  • Miss a week, and you're out

My goal in playing is simple. Get out and shoot film.

This Week

This week's prompt is "Going up! Going down," which immediately made me think of a pair of elevators at Cherry Creek Mall next to a play area. I remember them from childhood because they're glass and you can watch them go up and down.

Funnily enough, my wife's inspiration for the prompt come from the theme song of Are You Being Served?, a British television series set in a department store – not so different from a shopping mall.

I didn't make it to the mall to photograph the elevators, but I did visit my parents' house. It has a very long, very uneven set of steps that are special to me. I've been up and down them countless times.
