The Photo Game: Friend, Best Friend, Some Kind of Friend

This week's prompt is "Friend, Best Friend, Some Kind of Friend." My submission shows three friends at what looks like their regular coffee meetup.

three friends at a coffee shop for their regular get-together

Background

I've joined Kenneth Wajda and a small group of photographers in a weekly photo game. Each week Kenneth writes a prompt, and we're each tasked with creating a photograph that meets the prompt.

There are a few rules:

  • All submissions must be scans of film, no photos from digital cameras
  • Images must be taken, processed, and submitted by 8AM each Saturday
  • Miss a week, and you're out

My goal in playing is simple. Get out and shoot film.

This Week

This week's prompt is "Friend, Best Friend, Some Kind of Friend." My submission shows three friends at what looks like their regular coffee meetup.

I took the picture using Ilford HP5+ and my grandfather's Rolleiflex 2.8E.

The three friends in the photo were happy to pose for a picture in exchange for a look at my old camera, but that's not this photo. Instead, I'm submitting the candid one I snuck when they weren't looking. I like it better :)

Other Photos from the Roll

The two guys in the following photo were talking outside a restaurant waiting to be seated. They looked like friends, and they sounded like friends. Turns out, they had just met. They introduced themselves to each other after I proclaimed them friends.

I like the sign in the following photo of B&B Cafe. I like the shape of it, and I particularly like that it mentions "HOME MADE PIE." It feels old-timey and wholesome.

I knew I had already met the prompt for the week after leaving the coffee shop. At that point, I just wanted to find a few nice shots to finish off the roll so that I could develop it. That's when I saw this clock, which turned out to be my favorite photo of the day.
