The Photo Game – kind of
I lost the Photo Game nearly six months ago. The goal of the Photo Game is to shoot, develop, and scan a roll of film every week. I did this for 43 weeks before I failed.
I learned a lot during that time. I learned how to estimate exposure. I learned to develop and scan film. I learned to work within the constraints of a given film stock. I learned to use many different analog cameras and several different film formats. I learned what kinds of images I like to make, and so many more things.
Playing the Photo Game pushed me to learn and to try things that have drastically improved my photographs and my understanding of photography.
I miss it.
Fortunately, I haven't let losing the Photo Game stop me from making photographs. Here are some of my favorites from the last couple of months.
120-to-35mm Adaptor at Rocky Mountain Arsenal
These first three are images of Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. I made them while testing a set of 120-to-35mm film adaptors in my Rolleicord. I like how the images span the film edge-to-edge, including the sprockets.
The image above was an inadvertent double exposure. I got a lot of these when using the 120-to-35mm adaptors. Most of them didn't make the cut, but I like how this one looks.
Portraits of Stuffies
My daughter loves her stuffed animals and treats them like family members. This avocado and hippo (affectionately called Ah-cah-doe and Moo) are some of her favorites.
Family Date Night
This restaurant was a family favorite when I was a teenager. I recently went back with my wife and daughter. This is an artsy image of the ceiling that is delightfully unchanged from my childhood.
